Dickies, a manufacturer of workwear, wanted to spice up their “American Worker of the Year” contest this year, so they teamed with SCA to offer a $1 million prize at the Dickies 500 race! The “American Worker of the Year” has been awarded annually for the past 17 years to an American worker who best exemplifies the spirit of the American Worker. This year, Michael McGee, an agricultural teacher and horse training owner from Oklahoma, won the title and a grand prize package, consisting of $50,000 cash and a trip for two to the Dickies 500 race at the Texas
Motor Speedway.
At the race, McGee was given the opportunity to turn his $50,000 into $1,000,000 – simply by predicting the winner of the race! McGee chose Kurt Busch to win, and when Busch took the checkered flag, McGee became a millionaire! He was presented with a $1,000,000 check in the victory lane with Busch at his side.
“We are excited and honored to award $1,000,000 to our American Worker of the Year for the first time in the promotion’s history!” said a representative for Dickies. “I had no voice left from screaming through the last two laps. We got to victory lane with 23 laps to go and Busch was in fifth. All the sudden, he started moving up and up and then he was in first. It was like nothing I've ever experienced ever.”
