SCA ASKS... WHO DOESNT
WANT TO BE A BILLIONAIRE?
The chance to win the $1 billion has made Grab.com one of the Internets most popular sites. During the first 15 days the site was live, Grab.com enjoyed an average of 120 hits per second. This high rate of activity earned the site an overall ranking of 32 on PC Data Onlines recent list of the top Web sites. PC Data Online measures Web activity and is a division of PC Data, a leading provider of technology intelligence and analysis based in Reston, VA. No one ever dared to offer a prize this large before, said Bob Hamman, SCA chairman and founder. This puts SCA at the forefront of the promotions industry, since not just anyone can launch a contest of this magnitude. We applied our knowledge of games and contests to determine that it was indeed possible to offer a billion-dollar prize on an Internet contest. To play the Grab.com $1 billion contest, entrants go to the Web site and pick seven numbers out of 77. Participants can earn five more opportunities to enter the contest for every friend who also enters the contest. The accounting firm Deloitte & Touche will observe the drawing of the winning numbers. SCA Promotions has guaranteed the $1 billion prize and is insured with a policy underwritten by National Indemnity Company, a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of insurance companies. We wanted to launch the site in a way that would get the new site immediate recognition, said Andrew Warner, president of Grab.com. We could have asked players to do something extreme and that might have gotten some attention, but it wouldnt necessarily have gotten the participation we wanted, so we took a bold step instead. That bold step is getting more than a little attention. Media coverage has been extensive, which is just what Grab.com was looking for. Regional and national newspapers, television, and radio have highly publicized the game. The promotion has even been written up in a daily Russian-American newspaper. Warner said the company turned to SCA due to its extensive experience with big money prizes. SCA has the expertise to make it happenthey didnt see all those zeroes and say it couldnt be done. Instead, they worked hard to put together a package that is making history, he said. With the launch of this groundbreaking contest, Grab.com plans on becoming one of the Internets most visited sites. |
