CONTESTANTS SCORE BIG PRIZES ON THE GRIDIRON From the high profile bowls to local contests, college football games offered chances for contestants to take home cash and cars this season, courtesy of SCA Promotions During halftime at the Nokia Sugar Bowl, Timothy Miller of Lebanon, Ohio was given a chance to win $1 million in a Football Toss promotion. The contest, which was sponsored by Nokia, teamed Miller up with former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theisman. Theisman was given 10 chances to toss a football into a 25-inch square target from 15 yards away. Each time Theisman hit the target, Miller was awarded $10,000. Miller was then given one chance to hit the target. If he was successful, he could multiply his earnings by 10, giving him the potential to win $1 million. In the 45 seconds allowed, Theisman completed six passes through the target, which was made to look like the face of a giant Nokia mobile phone. Miller missed his throw for $600,000, but still took home a hefty $60,000 prize. In Lynchburg, Va., Lynchburg Nissan teamed up with SCA to award a local university student a new truck. The two hosted the Quarterback Challenge during home football games of the Liberty Flames, the Division 1AA team for Liberty University, a private liberal arts college. Two ticket stubs were drawn during each home game. The seat holders came down to the field at halftime to participate in a relay. Each contestant ran from the end zone to the 20-yard line, where they put on a pair of shorts. At the 40, they put on a jersey, at the next 40 a helmet and at the far 20 a pair of shoes. Then they threw a pass to the end zone. The winner of each race was eligible for the grand prize-qualifying event at the last game of the season. At that game, there was a pass-throwing contest. Aaron Cox was the winner, earning himself a chance to attempt a 40-yard field goal. Cox ultimately made the field goal, winning a new Nissan Frontier truck. |
