Minneapolis, MN – When FLW Outdoors was looking for a way to get
consumers hooked on fishing, it tapped SCA for help. The result?A
fantasy fishing league in which anglers compete to land a $1 million
prize without ever getting wet.
Run in conjunction
with the Wal-Mart FLW Tour, the Conseco Fishing Challenge follows
seven legs of the tour. Participants register on-line, then review
a database of professional anglers. To win, participants must correctly
select, in order, the six pro anglers who will finish in the top
six slots at the next FLW tournament. Several of the seven tournament
legs have already taken place, and while the $1 million prize has
so far eluded capture, excitement remains high among contestants.
“The promotion
has been very successful,” says Bill Petrowiak of Jacobs Management
Corp., Web Manager for the site. The main goal was to capture and
qualify leads for the promotion’s sponsor, Conseco, a goal

accomplished
through the site’s registration process, he says. But there have
been other benefits as well. Traffic for the site is up 116 percent
from the past year, he notes, adding that the contest has contributed
greatly to that increase. The contest has also received lots of
national publicity.
Even better,
the site has attracted plenty of people who may be new to the sport.
FLW Outdoors is a membership organization, and the majority of those
registering on the site are not members, he says. Of that group,
approximately 60 percent have requested membership information.
“It’s really
getting us to a whole different group,” Petrowiak says. “You don’t
have to be a pro angler to play — anyone can do this.” The interactive
aspect of the site — participants can choose whoever they want for
their pro team — is a big part of the attraction, he says.
A good portion
of that credit goes to SCA. “SCA has just been a pleasure to work
with,” Petrowiak says. “They jumped through all the hoops to get
a game that worked for us and for our sponsor.”
