Kickoff Payoff Scores Big Return

Nashville,TN - Tapping into the excitement that surrounds a big event can be a great way to connect with fans and boost revenue. SCA helped Dick Yancey,
president of Yancey Marketing, accomplish both goals with a Kickoff Payoff promotion. Football devotees eagerly participated in hopes of becoming
prizewinners as promotion sponsors gained valuable consumer attention.

Called “The Big Bowl Sweepstakes,” the promotion is one that Yancey, who specializes in sports and media clients, has been running successfully for 12 years. During a selected football game, any time there’s a kickoff returned for a touchdown, there’s a big prize in store for a preregistered contestant.

This year, local ABC affiliate WKRN of Nashville, Tennessee purchased the promotion and offered fans a chance to win during all four Bowl Championship
Series (BCS) games. During the games, if the opening kickoff was returned for a touchdown, one lucky contestant scored a prize. During the FedEx Orange
Bowl, that prize was a brand-new Toyota Forerunner, valued at $30,000.

WKRN offered local area advertisers the chance to purchase sponsorships, a move that resulted in enhanced revenue for the television station. The sponsors names, which included Cricket Comfortable Wireless, Beaman Toyota, and Pizza Hut, were prominently displayed on the promotion materials.

Contestants also filled out entry forms that were available only through the sponsors.

“I’ve had a relationship with SCA for the past 15 or 16 years. I’ve never had a problem, and if I did, I know SCA would step in and make it right .”

On January 2nd, the scheduled date for the Orange Bowl, Iowa Hawkeye C. J. Jones made a 100-yard kickoff return on the game’s opening play. Not only was it the longest kickoff return in Orange Bowl history — plenty of excitement in and of itself — but it also was the play that won Mary Bowker of Nashville the Forerunner.

For Yancey and ABC, the promotion definitely increased the enthusiasm surrounding the game. It also helped create extra traffic for the promotion sponsors, boosting their revenue.

“That’s what it’s all about,” says Yancey.

Yancey isn’t a stranger to high profile promotions. Over the years, he’s worked with most major media and sports clients, which is why he repeatedly turns to SCA for prize coverage. He appreciates SCA’s professionalism and trusts its representatives to provide support.
