Golf Pro Shop Achieves Quadruple Sales
Algonquin, IL - A suburban Chicago golf pro shop generated buzz in the community and boosted sales more than fourfold with a simple offer: If the Chicago Cubs shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates in their April 12th game, the full purchase price of every item bought between March 26th and April 12th would be fully refunded!

"What's amazing is how word spread around town," says the pro shop owner. He advertised the promotion in an electronic newsletter and mailed a flyer to the club's 1,000 members. "I was getting calls from friends of members wanting to buy everything from a set of irons to shoes."
Sales skyrocketed from the usual $2,500 to $11,625 during the promotion's time period, exceeding his original estimate so much that he returned to SCA for additional coverage.
"This is a fantastic idea for any retail store. People had been shopping elsewhere for little things like golf balls, but this promotion got them into my shop so they could realize what I have," says the owner.
Although the Cubs failed to come through (the team lost, 13-2) the promotion was such a huge success that the owner is already thinking up similar events for the fall. He plans to return to SCA for coverage. "The reps are outstanding and very professional. It has been great dealing with them."
