Fishermen Get Hooked on SCA’s Promotions

Fishermen across the country reeled in big bucks from various SCA promotions from sea to shining sea and the many rivers and lakes in between.

Mike Vidal of Kailu—Kona, Hawaii pulled in the big one — and two diesel engines worth $28,500 from Pacific Machinery — for his 974.5 lb. marlin caught during the 1999 Kona Marlin Tournament Series. The catch broke the previous record by nearly 80 pounds.

In other marlin-related news, the Bahamas Billfish Championship reeled in lots of interest this year from anglers trying to hook the $500,000 award for setting a new the $500,000 award for setting a new Bahamian blue marlin record during any of the five BBC tournaments.

But, it was a sad fish tale when BBC entrant, Tommy Resha of Birmingham, Ala., had his line break while trying to catch a record-breaking blue marlin- and a half million bucks — after an exhausting 32-hour battle.

Sports-fishermen are also getting hooked by equipment manufacturer Daiwa which will award an angler $1 million for catching a world-record largemouth bass using a Daiwa tackle. Another $1 million could go to the winner of the “Feel the Fish“ contest to anyone catching a pre-selected freshwater or saltwater species fish at a world-record weight using the popular SpiderWire™ line.
